(Jessica) Welcome to Money Matters on the Southern Bank Financial Wellness Network. I’m Jessica.

(John) And I’m John!

(Jessica) And today, we’re talking about the importance of building credit as a young adult.

(John) It’s actually a great idea to start establishing credit when you’re young as credit history makes up a decent portion of your credit score.

(Jessica) It is still important to maintain healthy credit habits, such as paying back everything you borrow as quickly as possible and not spending above your means.

(John) That’s right. And making at least the minimum payments every month, in addition to making payments on time, will benefit your credit score. Establishing those habits early will make for a healthy credit history down the road and show lenders that, one, you are responsible; two, can be trusted to make good financial decisions; and ultimately will open doors to better interest rates or loan availability.

(Jessica) We’ll see you next time on Monday Matters. And remember, Financial Wellness starts here!
